Young people represent Ghana’s greatest resource, yet many face barriers to education, creativity, and opportunities for leadership. WICEF’s Youth Development program creates safe, inspiring platforms where adolescents and young adults can build confidence, develop new skills, and connect with peers in positive and transformative ways. Through arts, sports, and leadership training, we nurture talents that not only strengthen individual potential but also contribute to healthier and more vibrant communities.

Flagship initiatives:

  1. Talented Kids Show – A creative platform for school-aged children to showcase drama, music, poetry, and dance. Beyond entertainment, the event develops public speaking, self-expression, teamwork, and self-confidence. In 2024, the Talented Kids Show raised GH¢181,961 in community and donor support, demonstrating both its popularity and its sustainability as a fundraising tool for youth programs.
  2. Obaasima Senior High School Pageant – Unlike conventional beauty contests, Obaasima redefines beauty by highlighting intelligence, leadership, and community service. It challenges harmful gender stereotypes by emphasizing advocacy, mentorship, and social impact. In 2024, the event mobilized GH¢45,110, while inspiring young women to pursue roles as change-makers in their schools and communities.
  3. ADOM ARA KWA Keep-Fit Club Gala – An annual sports and fitness event that encourages healthy lifestyles, fosters team spirit, and mobilizes young people through games, athletics, and wellness activities. The 2024 gala generated GH¢25,959, demonstrating that health-focused events can also serve as platforms for youth networking and leadership development.

Impact so far:

• Reached thousands of young people across Bono East and beyond, building their creativity, confidence, and leadership.
• Provided alternative spaces for adolescents to resist negative peer pressure and embrace healthy, purposeful lifestyles.
• Created inter-school networks that strengthen solidarity and peer mentorship.

Future outlook:
WICEF plans to expand the Youth Development program by incorporating digital innovation, such as online talent showcases and leadership webinars, to reach even more young people, including those in underserved rural areas. The program will also integrate components of climate awareness and social justice to ensure that young people see themselves as active contributors to sustainable development.
